Before Vanna Lace became the international show girl that we know today, she started out in the remote town of Smithers, British Colombia. Her mother was owner of a pilates studio and a ballet teacher. Her pastoral childhood was changed forever when she was accepted to The National Ballet School in Canada. The slight figure of Michele Roberts, only nine years old, packed up her things from the log house in the wilderness and headed off to the big city.

The dorm rooms of the prestigious private school only emphasized her homesickness, she was the farthest kid from home. Her insatiable competitiveness had her waking up two hours before her peers to get an edge on the competition.

Vanna was honored with scholarships from the Canadian government. Betty Oliphant, the founder and principal of the school took her under her caring wing and treated like a child prodigy.

Tragedy struck when Vanna was called into the principal’s office. Grave faces surrounded her as they discussed the problem: HER BOOBS! In her senior year they had begun to grow and the voluptuous pair that now presented themselves were deemed far too big for ballet.

Devistated, Vanna traveled to Europe. She visited with the Royal Ballet in London, the Dutch National and the Paris Opera. It was at the Netherlands Dance Theater that she met the famous choreographer, Jiri Kylian. He had a major impact and influenced the direction of her future career

Back in Canada and after a brief stint working on a shrimping boat, her natural talent for grace of movement, paired with the blasted big boobs, drew her in the direction of that platform. Her assets made her the perfect woman in the world of exotic dance.

Vanna quickly got an agent and hit the road and paid her dues. In this early part of her career she was lucky enough to see the vices of the industry and what they could do to the less ambitious. With the aim of becoming the world’s greatest exotic dancer, Vanna stuck to the straight and narrow.

Her hard work paid off, she was scouted by the famous photographer Stephen Hicks which lead to numerous photo shoots with Earl Miller, Philip Mond, and Carl Wachter to name a few.

Like the foils in the best Hollywood movies, she had her efforts sabotaged in the lead up to a competition. But even having her custom music and costumes stolen, she went on to triumph; winning in quick succession Miss Nude British Colombia, Miss Nude Western Canada, and ultimately the coveted title Miss Nude World.

Winning Entertainer of the Year meant that nothing could stop her. Greg Thompson productions recruited her to come to Vegas to star in the hit show Skin Tight at Harrah’s.

Vanna’s next step was another hit show, Splash at the Riviera. Things were going from strength to strength.

Sadly, misfortune inched its way back into her life. Her brother, whom she had once saved from a bear attack back in the northern interior of Canada, was struck down with a rare cancer.

Ever loyal and embedded with strong family values, Vanna’s career took a back seat and she traveled regularly back to Canada to help her bother.

Vanna is currently working on a reality show concept with Gene Simons’ production company as well as a documentary of her life and the colorful road she took from ballet to burlesque.
